The Black Historical Cultural Society is now taking membership in the following areas:

• Education

  Historical Current, research, research presentation, archiving society records, current events, discussion and reading groups.

• Media

  Archiving contacts, developing press release templates, recording current media related events relationship with web site developers, creates data base international national local links to larger community eventually to develop BHCSBC internet media newsletter.

• Historical Archiving

  Works with Education Committee to record archive historical records as data base and reference. Societal practices, laws, Black History, immigration policy, Records Trends, Historical Events, Submits information to Education and Web Site.

• Youth Development

  Works with Education Historical Archiving to promote Black educational events, attends youth functions. Co ordinates discussion groups with youth and the BHCSBC.

• Local, National, International

  Works with committees to synthesize Organizational Statements on Community National and World events. Develops Support for Statements, and BHCSBC positions. Discussion group presents to the organization issues for support and organizational consensus.

• Advocacy

  Based upon Information Discussions, and working with other committees positions are acted upon strategically to present change constructively.

• Financial Development

  Creates data base of grants, financial sources, strategic planning initiatives, fund raising initiatives to develop BHCSBC financial core, community foundational funding. Works with Treasurer Secretary, to facilitate projected, fund raising and budgets.

• Events

  Committee planning of Events. Uses Project planner, works with Financial Development other Committees to develop calendar schedule, develops budget as per each committee, presents the planner to complete organization.

• Fund Raising

  Works with committees (Financial and Events) to specifically develop target markets, data base, community participation in creating fund raising events. Membership is $15.00 per year but during the planning and up until the Opening Black History Month Celebration the fee is waived to new registered members.

Interesting Facts:

The first Blacks arrived in the British Colony of Vancouver Island in the spring of 1858!
The Colony's first police force was the all Black AFRICAN RIFLES appointed by the Governor, James Douglas, in the summer of 1858!
